Rakul Preet Singh was on top of his game with back-to-back
hits. His new film Winner is in the running and on this occasion we caught up
with him during the shooting of his last film with Naga Chaitanya. Let's see
what she has to say.
Your role in Winner?
I play an athlete who is also a jockey in the film. Because
of me, Sai Dharam Tej gets involved with the horses and all the stroke of
history starts from there. In addition, as I am a fitness phenomenon, I had a
great time shooting for the movie. There are certain scenes where I will flaunt
my athletic body on which I have worked very hard.
Tell us about the film?
The winner is an external commercial animator with high
technical values. The way Chota K Naidu shot the film and made her look super
rich will be a new experience for viewers. The great riding scenes were kept in
Turkey and the way the film turned out is too good. The film also has strong
family emotions that deeply affect everyone. In fact, Teju said he had tears in
his eyes when he watched the projection.
Working with Sai Dharam Tej?
I and Tej go a long way back. We've been close friends for a
long time and it helped a lot during the filming. In fact, we were like two
children who were left in a candy store. We had a lot of fun while filming and
Teju is a darling. The way he respects his mother and stays ashore is the best
thing about his character.
How does it work with mega heroes?
For me, each hero is the same. I do not treat them special
because of their family lineage or whatever. Each film is a different
experience and I treat my co-star with the utmost respect and give my best for
the project.
Working with Gopichand Malineni?
This is my second film with the director and I had a great
time working with him. The way he gives freedom to his actors is very good.
Even in Winner, the way he told my character is way too good. He is very cold
outside but seizes what he wants from his actors.
How do you deal with your star status?
I am very happy and enjoying this phase. Also, I am very
clear on the fact that what goes up will surely go down one day. I take one
project at a time and I work hard to look great and perform to the best of my
abilities.
How do you manage so many projects at once?
I think I manage them pretty well. There are also some
projects that I had to leave because of date issues or either manufacturers
replaced me. All the films I rejected or gone were flops. So I feel that God is
with me and helps me to get even better projects.
Working in women's films?
Frankly, nobody approached me for such films. Also I feel
I'm not ready for such movies as I can not wear the entire film on my shoulders
compared to a Nayanthara or Trisha. Maybe in the future, I would like to make
sports-based films like Mary Kom.
Future projects?
In March I started shooting for Karthi film in Tamil and I
currently juggle between Naga Chaitanya and Mahesh Babu movies.
